Murrells Inlet, SC
Annette Nolan Deer succumbed to her battle with cancer on Friday, June 7, 2024. She passed away at home, peacefully, with her daughter by her bedside. She was 79 years old.
Born in Marlboro County, Annette was one of six children born to William Prentiss and Daisy Jackson Nolan. She grew up in Bennettsville and in her early adult years worked for the Marlboro County Clerk of Court, and later for Griffin Flythe Chevrolet. Annette moved to the Georgetown area around 1990 and later married Vick “Butch” Deer. While married to Butch, Annette was employed as the Personal Assistant/Bookkeeper to Walker Inman, and assisted Butch in maintaining Greenfield Plantation in Georgetown. During her years of service to Walker, she and Butch divided their time between their homes in Wyoming and Georgetown. Upon her retirement in 2006, she and Butch remained in Georgetown at Campfield Plantation.
Annette was a striking woman that had a generous heart and a calming presence about her. She had a beautiful, contagious smile and loved to laugh and spend time with her family. She was always health conscious and tried to stay active, enjoying long walks, regularly. She especially enjoyed walking the property at Campfield with her daughter, Jill. She also enjoyed her visits to Marlboro County to catch up with family and friends there. While her size did not indicate it, she had a love of seafood, good, southern cooking, and any kind of sweets, especially chocolate. She never went to Marlboro County without her sister-in-law, Deborah, having a home cooked meal and a cake, cobbler, or some other sweet treat awaiting her. She was a great cook herself and especially enjoyed cooking for her daughter, Jill, whenever she came to visit. Jill was the “apple of Annette’s eye,” and her most treasured earthly gift.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; sister, Betty Jean Joye; and brother, Leonard Nolan.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Turner (wife, Jamie Turner) of Lexington; grandchildren, Noah and Mae; brothers, Jerry Nolan (Jackie) of Clio and J.W. Nolan (Deborah) of Blenheim; sister, Janice Powell (Fred) of Pawley’s Island; her adoring grand-puppy, Charlie; and many beloved nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at Burroughs Funeral Home in Bennettsville. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens in Georgetown.
