Our Mother, Betty Carol Crowley Simmons, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 10, 2025. She was 81 years old.
Momma was born to Eloise (MaMa) and Gordon (Papa) Crowley on May 18, 1944. She was a twin to her brother Billy Crowley and a sister to Barbara Hayes and Lucille Crowley. Papa, MaMa, Uncle Billy, and Aunt Lucille preceded her in death. Momma and Aunt Barbara were particularly close and she was by Momma’s side until the end.
Momma married the love of her life Francis ‘Buddy’ Simmons on September 23, 1965. Together, they raised four daughters, Becky (Terry) Smith, Anita (Ernie) Nolan, Kim Simmons, and Fran (Kevin) Adcock. Momma made raising her children her priority. She was there everyday to greet her children from school with cut up fried potatoes and sweet tea. She went back to work when her youngest was in Middle School. Even then, she wasn’t too far away from her children as she worked in the library at Bennettsville Middle School. She loved working with children, books, and Carol, the librarian, who turned into a life-long friend.
Momma loved Jesus. She taught her children to love Jesus. She lived every day in God’s word. She was proud that her son-in-law Terry Smith was a pastor and she and Daddy attended Pastor Terry’s church until their health declined. Momma and Daddy lost their daughter, Kim, in 2012. Their faith in Jesus got them through.
Momma had four grandchildren and one great-grand that she loved more than anything in this world. She was proud of the husband and father that her grandson Tyler Nolan (Melody) has become. Her great-grandson Tate brought her so much joy. She was so proud of her granddaughters, Caitlyn Nolan and Piper Adcock. She never missed watching Caitlyn play softball in Italy on her laptop. She and Piper had the best conversations about faith, life and love and Momma was so proud that Piper had started college. She was so grateful for her bonus grandson, Caleb Adcock.
Momma had many dear friends. The most dearest to her heart was her friend Shirley Swann. Ms. Shirley was always there when our parents needed her.
We would like to give thanks to Amanda Freeman for being the best neighbor to our parents. Thank you to Crescent Hospice and the many caregivers that have assisted us with her care.
In accordance with her wishes, Momma will be laid to rest with her beloved daughter Kim in a private family service.
