Betty “Joyce” Meggs Miles passed away on April 2, 2026, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. She was 80years old.
Born in Blenheim on May 30, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Henry Ellerbe Meggs and Myrtle Parker Meggs Clark. Joyce was the Salutatorian of Lower Marlboro High School class of 1963 and held a B.S. in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University. She was the Payroll Manager for Firestone for 19 years and retired as the Benefit Integrity Claims Specialist with the Department of Social Services. Joyce was an active member of Smyrna Church of Lester, serving as Conference Lay Leader, church secretary, and member of the choir and Women’s Club. She was a member of the Pilot Club and the Bennettsville Senior Circle. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and playing cards every week. Joyce had a sweet smile and a welcoming spirit. She will be deeply missed.
Along with her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clyde Clark; brothers, Billy Meggs and Neville Meggs; sister, Judy Carole Meggs Hood; sisters-in-law, Sammie Meggs, Lillie Meggs, and Donnie McQueen; and brother-in-law, Alan Hood.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Hubbard Allen Miles, Jr of the home; son, Greg Miles (Rebecca) of Bennettsville; daughter, Amy Kessler (Harold III) of Bennettsville; brother, Hubert Meggs (Jennie) of Bennettsville; grandchildren, Trevor Miles (Katherine), Mason Kessler, Meghan Ryder (Logan), Harold Kessler IV (Christina), Nathan Kessler (Amanda); and great-grandchildren, Wade Lee Kessler and Harold Ray Kessler V.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Burroughs Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Brownsville Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm, just prior to the service.
