Bennettsville
Bobby Day Godwin passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Veterans Village in Florence surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old.
Bobby was born in Sampson County, NC in the town of Mingo on November 17, 1936, to the late William Floyd Godwin and the late Thelma Mae Monds Godwin Byrd. He was a member of the United States Navy. He attended Bruton’s Fork Baptist Church. He was a graduate of East Carolina University. He retired as a schoolteacher at Marlboro County High School, where he taught and coached football. He also retired from AMI Kids Camp Bennettsville. He loved sports, history, and traveling. He was a proud teacher and coach.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory; wife, Ida Mae Hinson Godwin; sons, Kenneth Williams and wife Renee of Timmonsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above; his stepfather, Walter “Felton” Byrd; brother, William Floyd Godwin, Jr.; twin brother, Billy Ray Godwin.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11am, Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville.
