Carey Brooks Hubbard, “Carey B”, age 85 of Bennettsville, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at his residence.
Carey was born April 14, 1940, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late Brooks and Frances Helms Hubbard. Carey worked for twenty-seven years at Powell Manufacturing. After leaving there, he continued his career at the Marlboro County Tax Assessor’s Office. Carey was an avid sports fan who especially loved baseball. He enjoyed working around the house and in his yard. Carey was a member of Marlboro Masonic Lodge 88 and the Omar Shriners. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Bennettsville. Carey was a former deacon and served as a church elder. He had a bubbly personality and never met a stranger. Carey will be remembered as a friend to all.
In addition to his parents, Carey was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Leigh Childress Shuford; and a sister, Mollie Lopez.
Carey is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Hazel Tierney Hubbard of the home; grandchildren, Brittany Hatcher of Wallace and Charissa Banks of Tampa, FL; nephew, Gaylon Floyd of Bennettsville; a niece, Lola Floyd Shields of Raleigh, NC; son in law, Jimmy Shuford of Bennettsville; several other extended family members also survive.
A church led memorial service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Bennettsville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
The family would like to give a special thanks Agape Hospice, Teresa Smith, and Janice “Cookie” Goodman for their compassionate care. A special thank you also goes to his caregivers, Ginger Floyd and Patricia McRae.
