Catherine "Cathy" (Wimberly) Lynch

Catherine Wimberly Lynch, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, North Carolina.

Cathy was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina, on May 15, 1947, to the late Robert Lee and Viola Suggs Wimberly.

Cathy always put family first and her friends a close second. She was an advocate for her children and grandchildren and extended that care to any child needing motherly support. Smart, opinionated, and always honest, Cathy was known for giving great advice, whether it was asked for or not. She could find humor in unexpected places and often at the exact moment humor was needed the most. Her charisma was infectious, and she truly was the life of the party. The party was often in Cathy’s spotless kitchen, the home base for her Sunday night poker club. Her poker nights, always well-attended by friends and family, were filled with laughter, friendly competition, and her delicious cooking and baking. Cathy welcomed everyone into her home.

Cathy had a universal love for animals, especially dogs and birds. She appreciated beauty in nature and the calm serenity of fishing a farm pond at first light. Affectionately called “Skipper” by her father and taught by him to fish at a young age, she enjoyed boasting about her angling exploits throughout her life. Cathy is a legend to all who knew her.

She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory: her husband, David Lynch; her children, Mary Lynch Boan, Kenneth Lynch, and Levin Lynch; her grandchildren, Alexa Boan, Wimberly Boan, Davidson Lynch, Addie Lynch, and Drake Lynch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
