Clarence Boyd Hayes, age 83, of Florence, SC, formerly of Bennettsville, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at MUSC Florence.

Born May 5, 1940, he was a son of the late Clifton Boyd and Sue Graham Hayes of Bennettsville, SC. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Bennettsville where he previously served on the Vestry as an usher and sang in the choir. Prior to his retirement, he was in retail sales and home care of Hospice patients. He enjoyed gardening, as evidenced by his beautiful yard and attending yard sales, as evidenced by his home filled with “collectibles”. For years he devoted his time and energy as caregiver for his mother who had Alzheimer’s until she passed at age 88. He represented the good that we all need in our daily lives. He will be missed by his family who dearly loved him and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Charlie Clifton Hayes; niece, Eva Marie Grayson; and brother-in-law, Johnny L. Gaskins.

He is survived by his sisters, Annie Sue H. Gaskins and Mary Kay H. Johnson, both of Florence, SC; sister-in-law, Patricia S. Hayes of Fayetteville, NC; nieces, Jennifer (William) Wafer of Ridgeway, SC; Deborah (Chuck) Davis of Rock Hill, SC; Kimberly (David Wafer) Johnson of Mooresville, NC; nephew, Clifton Hayes of Hillsborough, NC; aunt, Anna Margaret Graham of Dillon, SC; five great-nieces; two great-nephews; and numerous beloved cousins and extended family members.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, in the chapel of Burroughs Funeral Home of Bennettsville, SC. The family will receive friends just prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
