Donald Elroy Floyd, age 85 of Clio, SC, passed away on Nov 19, 2024, at his residence after a long illness.

Donald was born March 5, 1939, in Randolph County, NC to the late Roy J. Floyd, Sr. and Ila Mae Miller Floyd. He was a local farmer his entire life and owner of Floyd Farms and Floyd’s Garage - keeping other farmers’ equipment in working order. He could fix or rig anything! He taught his kids and grandkids how to drive trucks and tractors way before the age of driver’s licenses and all about good work ethic (whether they liked it or not). If anyone called him for help, he was there to assist. Donald spent over 50 years in service to the Clio Rural Fire Department, acting as Chief for many years, and was one of the founding members. In his spare time for fun, he dug a huge pond with his backhoe where we hold our family reunions, park our campers, fish, and enjoy the scenery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Floyd, and sisters, Carolyn Floyd Meggs, Ann Floyd Anderson, and Wilma Floyd Jackson. Donald is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn, son Bill Floyd (Leslie) of Bennettsville, SC, daughters Sharon Floyd Walsh (Scott) of Anderson, SC and Renee Floyd Tillett of Fort Mill, SC. He has 5 grandchildren, Shannon Tillett Grzyb, Ashley Floyd Austin (Ryan), Carys Floyd, Tyler Walsh, and Cole Walsh (Hayley) and two great grandchildren, Lily Floyd and Hampton Walsh. He is also survived by brothers, Tommy Floyd, RJ Floyd, Jr. (Connie), Dixie Floyd, and sisters, Betty Sue Floyd Lisenby, Ida Mae Floyd Ellis, and numerous nieces & nephews.

A service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday Nov 24, 2024, at Burroughs Funeral Home at 688 Beauty Spot Rd, Bennettsville, SC. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Clio Rural Fire Department PO Box 296 Clio, SC 29525.
