Mr. Donald James Heyward, 69, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Langit’s Assisted Living Facility in Charleston, SC.

Born, June 12, 1953, in Bennettsville, he was the son of the late James Thomas Heyward and the late Ruth Haithcock Heyward Griggs and Buck Griggs. He spent most of his working years working in the iron construction and other construction industries. He has always been well known for his boisterous and super friendly personality. He loved living life adventurously, which got him nick named “Wild Man.” He loved living in the city of Charleston, SC, and loved every friend that he ever met and had made in his life. He had the biggest heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above; sister, Tommie Jane Compton; and brother, Bobby Ray Heyward.

 He is survived by his son, James “Jamie” Harley Heyward and wife Ines; grandchildren, Elena Grace Heyward and Tristan James Heyward of Myrtle Beach, SC; his son, Thomas Adam Southerland and family of the Phillipines; sisters Carolyn Quick of Bennettsville, SC, Kay Franks (Warren) of Georgetown, SC, Wanda Bowen of Bennettsville, SC, Deana Beasley (Marvin) of Summerville, SC, and Pamela Mathis of McColl, SC; brothers, Ronald Heyward (Julie) of Moncks Corner, SC, Butch Griggs of Bennettsville, SC, Keith Griggs (Barbara) of Moncks Corner, SC, Lee Griggs of Huntsville, AL, and Glenn Griggs (Linda) of Bennettsville, SC; and many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Burroughs Funeral Home in Bennettsville.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., just prior to the service.
