Mr. Donald Burchell King, Sr. entered God’s Loving Arms on Saturday, June 14, 2025, surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

Donald was born in Bennettsville, SC on November 4, 1942, the son of the late Douglas Burchell King and Gladys Seago King. From an early age Donald enjoyed sports, especially golf. He attended Bennettsville High School where he played on the golf team. After graduation from Bennettsville High School, Donald attended St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, NC and King’s College in Charlotte, NC, but his passion was at home in his greenhouses. He returned home and went into business with his parents. He shared God’s beauty by propagating and selling bedding plants from Fayetteville, NC to Charleston, SC to Columbia, SC and places in between. After closing this business, he went to work for his father-in-law, Carlisle T. Smith, at Warden and Smith, Inc. Ready Mixed Concrete. He has been a member of First Methodist Church of Bennettsville for 56 years. In recent years, he was lovingly welcomed by Pastor Keith Stewart and many members of Cheraw United Methodist Church in Cheraw, SC as a regular visitor.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Cheraw United Methodist Church, with burial following in Hebron Cemetery. The family will be pleased to receive friends at the King home, 730 Lakeshore Drive, Bennettsville. Memorials, if any, may be made as one chooses to Cheraw United Methodist Church, Hebron Cemetery Association, or the charity of ones choosing.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, the family he was devoted to: his loving wife of 56 years, Kathryn Smith King, daughter; Kathryn Suzanne King, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, sons; Donald Burchell King, Jr. (Stacy) of Cheraw, SC and Brandon Traywick King (Christy) of Bennettsville, SC, daughter; Patricia Allyson King of the home, ten grandchildren; Hunter King Carter, Jacob Burchell King (Jackie) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kali Carter Morris (Hunter) of Manning, SC, Anna Elizabeth King of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kaylynn Shannon King of Cheraw, SC, Emily Harris King of Cheraw, SC, Joshua Ryan King, Amanda Grace King, Sarah Lynn King, and Lilah Rose King all of Bennettsville, SC, Three great-grandchildren; Al DeLeon, Rylynn Williams, and Carter Morris.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the loving and compassionate care given to Donald and us all by the nurses, doctors, and entire staff at both Seacoast Mcleod Little River 4th floor and Embrace Hospice House of Myrtle Beach.
