Dr. William Church Whitner, Jr.

Dr. William Church Whitner, Jr., age 82 of Bennettsville, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at The Manor in Florence.

Dr. Whitner was born December 5, 1942, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late William Church, Sr. and Argent Gibson Whitner. Dr. Whitner was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bennettsville. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Dr. Whitner served his community for several years as a physician at the Lindsay Street Clinic. He enjoyed music and movies. Dr. Whitner also cherished spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Whitner was preceded in death by a nephew, Breeden Bethea.

Dr. Whitner is survived by his sister, Frances Whitner Bethea and her husband Charles, of Marion; nieces, nephews, and several other extended family members also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park.

A time of visitation will be held prior to the service on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church.
