Eugene "Gene" Pate

Eugene “Gene” Pate, age 74 of Clio, passed at Scotland Memorial Hospital Thursday, March 6, 2025, after an illness.

Mr. Gene was born in Bennettsville, SC, on January 3rd, 1951, to the late Lamar Herring and the late Jeanette Pate. Gene worked for the City of Bennettsville in the beautification department for 28 years. He lived in Clio, South Carolina, and enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr and his son Dale Earnhardt Jr, and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

He is preceded in death by his previously mentioned parents, Lamar and Jeanette, and his sister-in-law, Betty Jackson Pate.

He is survived by his brothers, John Pate of Bennettsville & Robert Altman (Pat) of Bennettsville; sisters, Carol Hook (Tim) of Graniteville, SC, Mary Ann Sweatt (Mike) of Columbia, & Cathy McLain of Athens, TN.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Elem Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Clio.

A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home in Bennettsville.
