Bennettsville, SC
Evelyn R. Phillips, age 81, of Bennettsville passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness.
Eve was born on December 11, 1941, to the late Lonnie and Julia Bell Richardson in Marion County, South Carolina. She grew up in the Brittons Neck, South Carolina. Eve went to Nursing School in Greenville, SC and she and her husband, William “Bill” Phillips moved to Bennettsville permanently in 1974.
Eve eventually retired from DHEC as a Home Health Nurse in Marlboro County after many years of dedicated service. She then began her second career as the family caregiver, caring for her husband, Bill, assisting with the care of her mother, sister, brother, and of course her kids and grandchildren.
She was a great cook, a very talented artist, and she and Bill could build anything they set their hearts to. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She would sacrifice her own needs and wants in order to help others. Those that knew her often referred to her as one of the sweetest people they have known. Eve was also a Christian who is now walking with our Lord and Savior.
Eve was preceded in death by her husband and parents listed above; a brother, Alvin Richardson; sister, Vivian Inez Richardson.
Eve is survived to cherish her memory, her two loving sons, William J. “Jeff” Phillips (Kelli), Timothy L. Phillips (Audrea); grandchildren, Adamm Phillips (Adriana), Zach Phillips, Tory Phillips, Benjamin Phillips, and Shelby Lee Phillips; great grandchildren, Williamm Phillips-Rowe, IIythyia Phillips-Rowe, and Brinley McDaniel; siblings, Larry Richardson, Donnie Richardson (Cheryl), and Annette Hicks (Gerald); many nieces and nephews; and special bonus family, Norman and Barbara Gehm, and Tammy and John Gathings.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the sanctuary.
