Gilbert Vernon McLaurin

Gilbert Vernon McLaurin went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 20, 2023, at the age of 90. Gilbert passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.

He was born on September 2, 1933, in Dillon County to the late Ernest and Sallie McLean McLaurin. Gilbert was a lifetime resident of this area.

Gilbert worked at Delta Finishing Company in Wallace, SC out of High School. After marrying Winifred “Winkie” Mudd in April 1954, he went to work with Liberty Life Insurance Company and retired in September 1995. He was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church and Barnabas Sunday School Class. Gilbert will be greatly missed by his church, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, Wife, Winifred “Winkie” Mudd McLaurin; brother, Jack McLaurin; sisters, Alma Lee Therrell, Wilma Therrell and Geraldine Bundy.

Gilbert leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Pam and husband Mark Coughenour of Laurinburg, NC; son, Kent McLaurin and wife June of Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughters, Kimberly of Colorado Springs, CO; Sallie and Husband Tanner Mason of Paris, France. Great grandchild, Sebastian of Paris, France; sister, Phila McDonald of Pennsylvania; and a host of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, visitation will follow the service at the church until 12:00 p.m.
