Dorothy Helen Hayes Kimrey, age 71 of Bennettsville, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Helen was born September 15, 1951, in Bennettsville. She was a daughter of the late James Delton Hayes and Annie Mae Hayes Peacock. Helen loved the Lord. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She served her church in many capacities. Helen had a prayer quilt ministry, as well as a card ministry. She started Little Lambs Creations, where she made blankets for patients at the Scotland Cancer Center. Helen spent many years as a teacher’s aide in the Blenheim school district. She also was a former 911 dispatcher with Marlboro County. Helen loved animals, especially her K-9 companion, Bentley. She enjoyed watching her great grandkids play sports. Most of all, Helen loved her family and spending time with them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Gene Kimrey, and a brother, Milton Hayes.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Laurie K. Holder (John) of Rockingham, NC, and Sharon K. Polson (Kenny) of Bennettsville; brothers, Tommy Hayes (Patricia) of Bennettsville, and John Hayes (Sue) of Blenheim; sisters, Jean Jackson of Bennettsville, Linda Leviner of Bennettsville, Marie Powell of Blenheim, and Janice Munnerlyn (Jerry) of Blenheim; grandchildren, Heather Covington, Chelsey Haire (Tiffany), and Elizabeth Caulder (Austin), Heather Webb (Chris), and Cody Holder (Courtney); great grandchildren, Adan King, Camden Webb, Ensley Webb, Taylan Vance, and Everleigh Holder; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will take place following the service at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.
