James Elmore Locklear passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee. He was 76 years old.
Born September 4, 1946, in Scotland County, Elmore was a son of the late Woodrow and Monnie Mae Bowen Locklear. He was employed with Delta Mills for almost 40 years and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Bennettsville. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and Hot Rod magazine. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and attending races with his wife when they were able to go.
Elmore was preceded in death by his parents, listed above; wife, Janie Bridges Locklear; son, James Elmore “Mo” Locklear, Jr; daughter-in-law, Dora Brigman Locklear; brother, William Locklear and sister, Betty Locklear.
He is survived by his daughter, Joy Locklear Hicks (Lonnie “Peanut”) of Bennettsville; brother, Clyde Locklear of Laurel Hill, NC; sisters, Wanda Strickland of Laurinburg, NC and Audrey Locklear of Gibson, NC; grandchildren, Thomas Zebulen Locklear, Kimberly Faith Hicks, Samantha Leanne Locklear, Lonnie Hicks (Beth Steen), Crystal Wright (Chad); great grandchildren, Nicholas Wright (Ashlee), Austin Hicks, Jacob Hicks, Luke Hicks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Burroughs Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Bowen Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the funeral home.
