Jimmy Joe Hunt

Jimmy Joe Hunt, 70, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC.

Born July 22, 1953, in Dillon, SC, he was a son of the late Eli “Pete” and Sarah A. Moore Hunt. Jimmy Joe was a Corporal in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Marksman Expert, and Good Conduct Medal. He last served overseas in Korea. Jimmy Joe received several associate degrees and retired from Galey & Lord as an IT Specialist.

He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bennettsville. Jimmy Joe enjoyed fishing, watching sports, traveling, going on cruises, and especially being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Hunt, Donald Hunt, Charles Hunt; sister, Patricia Hardee; and nephew, Bruce Alford.

Jimmy Joe is survived by his wife, Julia Crowley Hunt, of the home; son, Brian James Hunt of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Mendy Jean Hunt of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and  Janine Renee Hunt (Mickey) of Mulvane, KS; step sons, Gene Herndon (Merri-Shannon) of Bennettsville, and Eric Herndon (Leslie) of Bennettsville; brother, Wayne Russell Hunt (Theresa) of Clio; sisters, Peggy Ann Roller (Jesse), Sarah Pauline Lowery (Randy), and Elizabeth Ann Alford (Thomas) all of Clio; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Burroughs Funeral Home in Bennettsville. A visitation will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home until 4:00 pm.
