John Joseph Jost, Jr.

John Joseph Jost, Jr., age 70 of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Bennettsville, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, at his residence.

John was born on December 22, 1954, in Bennettsville, SC. He was a son of the late John “Jack” Joseph, Sr. and Edna Polson Jost. John was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in Japan during his enlistment. John was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Rifle Expert Badge. He was a former volunteer for the Marlboro Rescue Squad. John spent his career in law enforcement. He worked several years for the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Department before his retirement from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department. John was an avid gun collector. He also enjoyed collecting patches from different law enforcement and EMS agencies throughout the country. John will be remembered as a dedicated public servant.

John is survived by his sons, Mike Jost of Sanford, NC, Joshua Jost of Cheraw, SC, and Landon Jost of Kershaw, SC; a daughter, Kallie Jost (Andrew) of Davenport, IA; a brother, Larry Jost of Blenheim, SC; a sister, Dawn Griggs (Larry) of Clio, SC; a niece, Tracy Jost of Greenville, SC; nephews, Adam Carabo (Chelsea) of Blenheim, SC, Ben Carabo (Mallory)of Florence, SC, Sam Carabo (Hailey) of Bennettsville, SC, and Chris Riddle of Blenheim, SC; his former wife and caretaker, Renee Jost of Kershaw, SC; several cousins and other extended family members also survive.

The family will have a time of visitation on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the home of his sister, Dawn, 3110 Little Man Lane Clio, SC 29525.

John made a selfless decision to donate his body to science.

A memorial service and burial will take place on a future date at the Florence National Cemetery.
