John McInnis, III

Clio, SC

John McInnis, III passed away October 29, 2022, peacefully and surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was born to Martha and Jack McInnis in Bennettsville on August 4, 1945. He was blessed with a wonderful childhood in Clio, South Carolina and held dear the friendships with his beloved Clio Boys for his entire life.

John earned a degree in mathematics from Clemson University in 1967. He was a member of the Numeral Society. His love for Clemson was eclipsed only by his love for God and his family.

He was married to Gail Randall McInnis for 54 years. Together, they had two daughters, Beth and Haden, and made a full and fun life in Laurinburg, North Carolina. After beginning his career in banking, John followed in his father’s footsteps and grew cotton, soybeans and corn in Marlboro County.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Claiborne McInnis. He is survived by his wife, Gail Randall McInnis and their daughters and their families, Beth and Travis Bell of Columbia, South Carolina and their son, Hunter, and Haden and Benjie Milligan and their sons, John McInnis “Jack” Milligan and Benjamin Foster “Ben” Milligan of Clio, South Carolina.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 3 at 2:00 pm at Trinity of Clio in Clio, South Carolina. The family will receive friends at a celebration immediately following the service at their home.

The family will be forever grateful to our caregivers, who are now beloved members of our family: Helen Nevels, Cathy Hunt, Tangie Peoples, McInnis White and the nurses and staff of Crescent Hospice and The Retreat at Carolina Bay.
