Josephine (Hayes) Thrower

Lila Josephine Hayes Thrower, 95, passed away, Saturday, June 18, 2022, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.

Born on December 5, 1926, in Blenheim, SC, she was daughter of the late George Eli and Mary Lila Hayes. She was married to the late William Edward Thrower, Sr. Mrs. Thrower was a graduate of Lower Marlboro High School in Blenheim and was retired from Weller Industries in Cheraw, SC. She was a member of Bennettsville Second Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing and her great granddaughter, Rylee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, brothers, James Delton Hayes and George Madison “Buddy” Hayes, sisters, Eleanor Hayes Peacock, Ruby Hayes, Luna Hayes Thompson, Annie Almeta Hayes, and Coleen Hayes Thompson Poole.

She is survived by her son, William Edward Thrower, Jr. and wife Miriam of Bennettsville; her daughter, Brenda Thrower Grooms and husband Roger of Bennettsville; grandson, R.J. Grooms and wife Sandi of Bennettsville; great granddaughter, Rylee of Bennettsville;  a special granddaughter, Travis McLaughlin and husband Tim of Pensacola, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Bennettsville Second Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Burroughs Funeral Home.
