Julia “Judy” Ellis Knight, age 74 of McColl, SC, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, after an illness.

Judy was born October 16, 1951, in Bennettsville, SC. She was a daughter of the late James W. and Gladys Hyatt Ellis. Judy attended Eastside Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and fishing. Judy loved being by the water, whether it be at the lake or the beach. She also made “great biscuits.” Most of all, Judy loved being with her family. She always enjoyed family functions and being surrounded by everyone she loved.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by sisters, Vivian A. “Vib” Ellis and Deborah Ellis “Deb” Lewellen.

Judy is survived by her son, Charles Rodney Haywood (Tammie) of Laurinburg, NC; brothers, James Ellis (Geraldine), Tony R. Ellis (Judy), and Nicky Ellis, all of McColl; a sister, Pamela Danford of Laurinburg, NC; grandchildren, Sharon Russo (Devin) and Kristi Haywood (Thomas) all of Laurinburg, NC; she was GiGi to Maximus Russo and Reeselyn Russo; special friends, Betty Fowler, Peggy Horton, Kim Beach, Marsha Grooms, and Brenda Barfield; two fur babies, Thor and Penny; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive. “To the world you are a Mother, but to our family, you are the World.”

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 3:00 P.M., at Eastside Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service in the Ellis Family Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Eastside Baptist Church.
