Leon Gray

William Leon Gray passed away on July 4th, 2023, at his home after an illness. He was 76 years old.

Leon was born July 19, 1946, in Blenheim, SC. He was a son of Harry H. and Virginia Petty Gray of Blenheim. He was of the Baptist faith and retired from J.P. Stevens as a mechanic. Leon loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed gardening (vegetables), and in his spare time, he worked on small engines. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents listed above, Leon was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion Clifford Gray (Jake), Harry H. Gray Jr. (Buddy), James Robert Gray “Bobby, and John Terrell Gray Sr. (Terrell).

Leon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Gray, son, William Leon Gray Jr. “John” (Darlene), and his daughter, Sharon Moore; brothers, Ray Gray (Jean) of Bristow, SC, and Bill Gray (Patty) of Bennettsville, SC; sister, Frances Bryant of Darlington, SC; grandchildren, Megan Hammonds (Caleb), Thegn Moore, Amanda Magayna (LaDonna) of Lexington, NC; great-grandchildren, Alayna and Ariana Hammonds, Zayden and Jamison Magayna; special niece, Sophia Eden Gray and other beloved family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Burroughs Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Brownsville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the funeral home.
