Lide McDowell, Jr.

Mr. Lide McDowell Jr. passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023,

at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old.

Mr. McDowell was born July 17, 1934, in Dillon County to the late Lide McDowell Sr. and Dicey Lucinda Jane McDowell.

He began his journey with the Lord in March of 1967 and joined Bristow Free Will Baptist Church shortly thereafter where he served faithfully until God called him home.

He worked for CP Polston Farms, Boro Wood Products, and retired from Mohawk Carpet after 18 and a half years.

He was a faithful and devoted teacher to the Adult Sunday School class at Bristow FW Baptist Church for more than 45 years and served more than 35 of those years with perfect attendance.  He also served as a Deacon to the church for many years.  He loved his church family very much.

Mr. McDowell enjoyed gardening and raising animals but most of all he enjoyed his time in Bible study and praying for others.  He loved his family and worked hard to provide a good life for them. He loved everybody he met and shared his love with each one.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above; his wife Mary Frances Owens McDowell; Children, Ralph McDowell, Dennis McDowell, and Janet McDowell Graves; Grandson, Kevin Turner; Brothers, Silas McDowell and Prentiss McDowell; Sisters, Ruth McDowell Nolan, Ruby McDowell, Aline McDowell Garner; and three infant siblings at birth.

Surviving are children Cynthia McDowell of the home, and Patricia (Steve) Bundy of Bennettsville; his grandchildren: Kim Carabo, Sheena McDowell Rogers, and Josh Bundy; several great grands, as well as his sister, Frances McDowell Turner of Randleman, NC.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Bristow Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Burroughs Funeral Home.
