Lillian Ruth Hudson Stubbs, 101 passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024. She was born in Cheraw, SC on October 6, 1922. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Hudson and Ila Blanche Webb Hudson. She was married to the late Bright Williamson Stubbs Sr. Together they raised their son Bright Williamson Stubbs Jr (Bill).
Lillian graduated from Cheraw High School in 1939. She became a telephone operator with Southern Bell where she worked for ten years. During this time, she met the love of her life, Bright Stubbs. Actually, they met on the telephone, which was the beginning of their life together. Lillian loved to cook, especially for all of Bill’s friends that would come over to the house. They loved her big meals that she would cook, especially her secret recipe pound cake that she cooked once a week. Lillian loved gardening and took pride in her beautiful plants and flowers. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and later a big supporter and helper for the Boy Scouts. She also supported Bill in varsity High School and College sports.
Lillian’s biggest attributes was helping others in need… a loyal caregiver. She loved her church and church family and was a devout Christian. She was a wonderful and loving wife and mother to both of the men in her life that she adored. She was also a very proud grandmother and great grandmother. The grandchildren always gave her much love and joy. Lillian loved animals, especially her sweet grand fur baby Libby. They both adored each other.
Lillian is survived by her son Bright Williamson Stubbs, Jr. (Liz), grandson James Todd Stubbs (Tracie), granddaughter, Britne’ Elizabeth Stubbs (Jess), great granddaughters, Catherine Isabella Stubbs, Anna Weslin Stubbs, Emerie Kate Stubbs, Jada Elizabeth Vuicich Bryant, Collins Elizabeth- Marie Stubbs and Stella Bright- Kennedy Stubbs, nieces Pamela Pederson and Jane Slagle, great nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and late husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Marion Bernard Hudson, sisters, Julia Evelyn Hudson and Ila Blanche Hudson Adams, niece, Dana Lynn Adams and nephew, Travis Graham Adams, Jr.
Pall Bearers are lifelong friends, Tim Brown, Frank Hinson, Andy Ingram, Johnny Mack Lane, Tommy Leslie and John McLaurin.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 14, 2023, at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. A visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. just prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
