Bennettsville
With profound love and heartfelt sorrow, we celebrate the beautiful life of Linda Norris Rogers, who was born on March 12, 1945, and peacefully departed this life on March 30, 2026, at Retreat at Carolina Bay (English Meadows) in Hartsville. She was 81 years old.
Linda was an extraordinary woman—an amazing wife, devoted mother, and deeply cherished “Grandmommy.” She was the heart and soul of her family, a constant source of strength, love, and warmth. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bennettsville.
Linda was a retired schoolteacher with the Marlboro County School System. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Coker University and her Master’s degree plus 30 hours in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion University.
She was an active member of the 20th Century Book Club, the Junior Charity League, the Garden Gate Garden Club, and served as founder and president of the Marlboro Shag Club, and member of Sans Souci Dance Club. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Historical Society. Linda served as Co-Chair of the Courthouse Beautification Committee, represented Bennettsville in the Charlotte Carousel Parade, and was voted “Most Attractive” in her class of 1963.
After beginning her career as a cosmetologist, Linda made the remarkable decision at age 29 to return to school to pursue a career in teaching. Her reason was simple yet deeply meaningful, she wanted to be home with her boys during the summers. That decision reflected who she was at her core: dedicated, determined, and always putting her family first. She went on to become a beloved teacher, touching countless lives with her kindness and care.
Linda had a true gift for entertainment. She didn’t just host gatherings—she created experiences filled with laughter, new dishes, and unforgettable memories. Her home was always open, and she delighted in sharing handwritten recipes or favorites from her vast cookbook collection. Her famous “chili and beans” became a family legend, and true to form, she kept the recipe a closely guarded secret, entrusting it only to Benjy.
She found great happiness at the family beach house, a place of peace where many treasured memories were made. Surrounded by loved ones, with the sound of waves and a little “shag” music nearby, she was always in her element.
Linda’s legacy is one of love, strength, generosity, and grace. She leaves behind a family who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts and honor her through the love they share.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, William B. “Benjy” Rogers, with whom she shared a lifetime of devotion, laughter, and unwavering support; her sons, John Benjamin Rogers and wife Libby, William B. “Will” Rogers Jr. and wife Mickey, and Stephen Norris Rogers and wife Michelle. Linda poured her heart into her boys, guiding them with grace, wisdom, and a steady presence.
Her most treasured title was “Grandmommy” to her adored grandchildren: Rachel Rogers-DeFuria (Jordan), John Benjamin Rogers III (Britt), Stephen Nicholas Rogers (Selena), Sara Kasey Rogers, William B. Rogers, III, Thomas Christopher Rogers, and Zachary Bryce Rogers. Her joy only grew with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Serenity Rogers, Sayden Rogers, and Elliot DeFuria, who brought even more light into her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, William Benjamin Rogers III; and her sister, Elizabeth Sweat.
Though she will be deeply missed, her presence will live on in every gathering, every laugh, every hug, and every cherished memory.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, April 4, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Bennettsville, officiated by Rev. Dr. Scott Andrews, with burial to follow at Dudley-Drake Cemetery in Blenheim, SC. A visitation will be held 10-11AM just prior to the service in Brogdon Hall at the church.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of Crescent Hospice and English Meadows for their loving care of Mrs. Linda during her time with them.
Memorials may be made to Dudley-Drake Cemetery Association, 420 Oakwood Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512, or to First Presbyterian Church of Bennettsville, P.O. Box 627, Bennettsville, SC 29512.
