Ella Louise Blackman Dixon

Our precious mother went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 13, 2025. She was 98 years old.

Mama was born in Society Hill, SC on November 1, 1926, to Martha Jane Burr Blackman and Fitzhugh Lee Blackman. She was raised during the Great Depression and helped her family financially during WWII.

She met the love of her life, James “Jimmy” R. Dixon and was married on July 9, 1949. They were married for 66 years, until his death in 2015.

Louise was a dedicated member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was in the WMU ministry. She loved watching Atlanta Braves baseball, fishing, cooking, and spending time with her family. She loved her family and loved helping anyone in need. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, selflessness, and loving spirit.

In addition to her parents and husband listed above, Louise was preceded in death by her infant son; son, Tommy Dixon; two brothers, William “Billy” Blackman and Jim Blackman; two sisters, Anges Blackman Tucker and Frances Blackman Brown,

Louise is survived by; her two sisters, Joy Flowers (Bernard) and Martha Ann Sumner (William); daughters, Jane Dixon Walker, Becky Dixon Jackson (Bill) and daughter-in-law, Audrey Dixon; grandchildren, David Knight (Rhonda), Mary Margaret Bracy (Christopher); Anna Walker; Austin Dixon (Brook), and Blake Dixon; great grandchildren, Raynie Dixon, Jamie Dixon, and Cameron Knight; a host of nieces and nephew, and cousins.

The family also would like to thank our special friends and caregivers Alberta Douglas, Merrie Crosland, along with Crescent Hospice, Jennifer Hodge and Alicia Clark,

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, October 17, 2025, at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, officiated by Revs. Josh Hilton and Larry Zaky, with burial at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 1-2 pm just prior to the service at the church.
