Margaret Ayers Thompson, 82, of Lexington, SC passed peacefully the morning of July 12th, 2025 with her family by her side.

Born on October 4th, 1942 in Blenheim, SC, Margaret was the daughter of James Burton (JB) Ayers Jr. and Annie O’Tuel Ayers.

Margaret was a devoted wife of 61 years and mother. She retired from the Lexington County Department of Mental Health and was a sports enthusiast. She loved Clemson Tiger football and Nascar racing. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing card games. Margaret always looked forward to the annual family vacation to Murrells Inlet, SC. She enjoyed many varieties of music including Elvis and Southern Gospel. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She will be remembered by her husband, James (Jimmy) Stonewall Thompson Jr., her son, James (Jim) Stonewall Thompson III (Susan), her grandchildren, Audrey Grace Thompson, Nicole Lynn Luckett, Randy James Luckett (Melissa), 3 great grandchildren, and 13 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents James Burton (JB) Ayers Jr., Annie O’Tuel Ayers and brothers, David Burton Ayers Sr., James Edward Ayers Sr., and Robert Gerald Ayers.

Graveside services only will be held Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, at 4 pm at Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville, SC.

A celebration of life will follow in Lexington, SC at a later date.
