Mary (Merritt) Driggers

Happy are the pure in heart, since they will see God. Matthew 5:8 Mary Merritt Driggers, age 87, transitioned to her forever home in Heaven on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Mary was born September 3, 1937, in Raleigh, NC. Her faith and spiritual beliefs took precedence over all her passions and loves. This was followed closely by her devotion to her family. Being surrounded by family and friends brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Ma Maggie took great delight in baking cake and sipping Dr. Pepper during family dinners. She had a particular fondness for Nora Roberts’ novels. She also enjoyed creating art with coloring books, the challenge of a word search puzzle, watching Sci-Fi movies, and leisurely drives. In her youth, she nurtured a love for gardening and fishing.

Ma Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, James Driggers; sister, Margaret Meritt; a son, James Driggers, Jr.; a daughter Terry Thomas; stepdaughter, Charlene Gowdy; a granddaughter, Mary Louise Driggers.

Mary leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughters, Iris Maples, Theresa Hinson Leviner, Tina Gandy and husband Robby, Dollie Lee, and Amanda “Amy” Goins; a stepson, Glenn Driggers.

In addition to her children, Ma Maggie leaves to cherish her memories, her grandchildren; James Driggers III, Ricky Goins, Jr. and wife Gena Goins, James Lee II and wife Chelsay Driggers, Christopher Lee and wife Margaret “Maggie” Lee, Whitney Oxendine and husband Jacob Oxendine, Lisa Goins, Ashley Driggers, and James “Buddy” Driggers; many more grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Rogers Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
