Mary Sue Freeman Hood passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Bennettsville Rehab and Nursing Center. She was 83 years old.
Born September 9, 1942, in Blenheim, SC, Mary Sue was the daughter of the late Preston and Beulah Parker Freeman. She was a graduate of Lower Marlboro High School and a retired textile worker with Mohawk Oak River Mill. Mary Sue was married to the late James Evans Hood and was a member of Parnassus United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed baking nut cakes and cooking Christmas breakfast for her family.
Along with her parents and husband, Mary Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew “Andy” Dell Freeman.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert P. Freeman (Laura Jean), William Terry Freeman (Derendia), Randy Freeman (Christie); a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends Annie Ruth and Katy Mae.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2026, at Burroughs Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home, just prior to the service.
