Bennettsville, SC
Maxie Taylor, 75, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022, at his home after an extended illness.
Born September 4, 1946, in Mullins, SC, he was a son of the late William and Bertha Mae Johnson Taylor. Maxie was a graduate of Mullins High School and the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy. He was a SGT with the US Army, having served in the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a retired S.C. Highway Patrolman and Rancher. He began his hobby in ranching with quarter horses. Later when Donna’s dad, Donald Quick’s health declined, he began caring for his father-in-law’s cows. He soon learned that horses cost money and cows brought money. He raised cows after retiring and really enjoyed it. He enjoyed reading the newspaper while watching his cows and loved to ride around to look at nearby farms and hayfields. In his later days Donna would take him riding. No telling where they would stop other than to get an ice cream or coke icee before returning home. He especially enjoyed spending time at his lake house in White Lake, NC. When he was having a good day, he enjoyed riding the golf cart, watching the sunsets over the lake, and visiting with his lake family. He also enjoyed discussing and watching sports. His favorite place to travel was Maggie Valley. He felt it was his heaven on earth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Taylor; grandson, Hunter Chavis.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Quick Taylor; son, William “Steven” Taylor of Aiken, SC; daughter, Shannon Hood of Florence; brother, Ronald Taylor (Gloria) of Mullins; uncles, JM Johnson (Eve) of Mullins, SC and Billy Johnson (Andora) of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Sophia Hood and Nick Polson; special friends, Andy McBride, Eddie Gordon, and Marvin Cooper.
