Norman Robert Gehm, age 87 of Bennettsville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 14, 2025, with his devoted wife of forty-six years, Barbara Moody Gehm, by his side.

Born on July 13, 1938, in Decatur, Illinois, Norman was the son of the late Kyle and Pauline Gehm. A proud patriot, Norman honorably served his country as a Marine with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry, and in the 12th Marine Corps Reserve and Recruitment District, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, from 1956 to 1962. He dedicated his professional life to serving his community and the state of South Carolina in law enforcement. He began his career in St. Louis, Missouri, before moving to Bennettsville, where he made history as the town’s first plain clothed detective. He concluded his distinguished career after many years of service at Evans Correctional Institution of South Carolina. His commitment to excellence was recognized when he was honored with the esteemed J.P. Strom Award. In his personal time, Norman embraced life with full enthusiasm. He found joy in fishing and hunting. He also had a passion for music. He often enjoyed listening to tunes and singing karaoke.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Norman’s greatest joy was his family. In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by a son, Brett Gehm.

Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his brother, Richard Kyle Gehm; his children: daughter, Tammy Gathings (John) of Ruby; a son, Michael Gehm (Tessa) of New Jersey; and daughter, Audrea Phillips (Tim) of Conway; He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Christ Church of Bennettsville. Burial with military honors will take place in the Hebron Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Christ Church of Bennettsville, prior to the service.
