Patricia "Pat" (Thompson) Starnes

Patricia “Pat” Thompson Starnes, 70, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at McLeod Health in Cheraw after a brief illness.

Born December 13, 1951, in Bennettsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charles “Chuck” Benjamin, Sr. and Elizabeth Radford Thompson. Pat was a retired operator with the Central Dispatch of Marlboro County. Earlier in her career she worked with Carter Chiropractic and was a reserve police officer with the City of Bennettsville. Pat was a 1970 graduate of Bennettsville High School and was a member of the Bennettsville First Church of the Nazarene. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Jerry Hoyt Starnes, son, Lee McElveen (Carol) of Bennettsville; brother, Charles Thompson (Judy) of Camden; uncle, Carl Starnes of Tatum; grandchildren, Regina Polson (Lance) of Hartsville, Samantha McElveen of Hartsville, Michael Odom of Deland, Fl; great grandchildren, Payton Polson and Bennett Polson; former daughter in law, Rhonda Carnes of Hartsville; nieces and nephews; and K-9 Companion Precious.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and son, Ronnie McElveen.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Burroughs Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday September 14, 2022, at the funeral home.
