Prentiss Eugene Childress, age 88 of Bennettsville, passed away at his residence on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Prentiss was born March 8, 1936, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late Willie and Elizabeth Perkins Childress. Prentiss was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a hard worker who worked as an engineer until his retirement. Prentiss loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing yardwork. He also enjoyed being at the beach. Most of all, Prentiss was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother.

In addition to his parents, Prentiss was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Childress Shuford; a brother, Curtis Childress; and a sister, Doris Childress Miller.

Prentiss is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Mildred Cronic Childress of the home; a son, William Eugene Childress (Kim) of Birchwood, TN; a daughter, Kim Childress Gilbreath of Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several other extended family members also survive.

The family receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the residence of the Childress Family, 204 Tyson Avenue Bennettsville, SC 29512.
