Richard Scott Hayes, Sr., age 52 of Bennettsville, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at his residence.

Richard was born December 11, 1970, in High Point, NC. He was a son of Betty Chavis Hayes and the late Thomas Hayes. Richard was employed as a corrections officer at Evans Correctional Institution until his health declined. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Richard was a member of the Blenheim Volunteer Fire Department. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. Most of all, Richard loved spending time with his family, especially his kids.

In addition to his father, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas P. Hayes, Jr., and a sister, Jerrie Hayes McCall.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Tabatha Ball Hayes of the home; sons, Richard Scott Hayes, Jr. and Dakota Hayes, both of Bennettsville; a daughter, Riley Hayes of Bennettsville; a brother, Jeffrey Hayes of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Tammy Lambert (Timmy) of Spartanburg, Pam Dimery and Holly Weller (Scott), both of Myrtle Beach; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at the Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Bristow Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.
