Robert L. “Bobby” Brock passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, at MUSC Charleston. He was 84 years old.

Bobby was born in Marlboro County on July 4, 1939. He was one of four children born to the late Robert and Vera Rogers Brock.

He graduated from Lower Marlboro High School and Southern Business University in Atlanta, GA, where he studied Business and Railroad Accounting. Bobby lived and worked in Jacksonville, FL, for 25 years before returning to Marlboro County and establishing his home in Blenheim. He was employed 40 years with CSX Railroad and retired as Assistant to Vice President of Transportation. He established Brock Consultant LLC in 1996 and served as a Transportation Consultant for CSX Technology, Frankfurt, Germany. From 2000 until present he has been under contract with Marlboro Water Company as Management Consultant.

Bobby has been active in the enhancement and growth of Marlboro County for many years, especially the Blenheim community. He has been the residing Mayor of the town of Blenheim since 2009. He established the Blenheim Fire Department in 1972 and served as its first Chief, and Marlboro Water Company in 1974, serving as its first President. He was a charter member of Marlboro County Economic Development Partnership, serving as Director, Chairman, and Secretary/Treasurer over the years. He was also Chairman of the Legislative Committee of the South Carolina Rural Water Association (SCRWA) in 2009, and President of the SCRWA from 2011-2013. He was a member of the South Carolina Drought Response Committee. Bobby was the Fund-Raising Chairman for the Marlboro County High School Spring Sports Complex. He was a member of Parnassus United Methodist Church and served as Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He also served as Chairman of the United Methodist PPRC.

Bobby was predeceased by his parents; brother, Freddy Brock; son-in-law, Thomas A. O’Neal III; and grandson, Samuel Brock O’Neal.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Petty Brock of the home; daughters, Robin Brock O’Neal and Polly Denise Hudson (Bryan), both of Blenheim; sisters, Annette B. Webster and Cathy Hunter; grandchildren, Thomas A. O’Neal IV (Joy), Robert Luther “Luke” O’Neal (Sabrina), Lauren Dailey Meeks (Jake), Alyssa Hudson, and Hannah Hudson; great grandchildren, Brock, Charlotte, and Ellie O’Neal, Maggie Meeks, and Juniper Gilmore.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Burroughs Funeral Home in Bennettsville, followed by burial at Dudley-Drake Cemetery in Blenheim. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the funeral home.
