Bennettsville, SC

Stephen Marion Weaver aged 69, of Bennettsville, passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family, on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at McLeod Health Cheraw.

Steve was born November 21, 1953, in Bennettsville, SC. He was a son of the late John Jacob Weaver, Jr and Marion Brasington Weaver. Steve grew up in Bennettsville. He was a former member and deacon at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. He was currently attending First United Methodist Church in Bennettsville. Steve was also a member of the masonic lodge. Steve dedicated his life to his law enforcement career. He started as a game warden with the South Carolina Department of Wildlife. After that, he joined the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. While employed there, he was a member of the Governor’s Raid Team, Governor David Beasley’s Executive Protection Detail, and an Alcohol Enforcement Agent. Once his career with SLED ended, he joined Nucor Steel as the head of security. Steve eventually came back home to serve as Chief Deputy for the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office. He retired from the Sheriff’s Office completing forty years of distinguished service in law enforcement. Steve was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor David Beasley in 1998.  Steve along with his wife Wanda, also owned and operated Carolina Cleaners for eleven years. In his time off, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Steve is survived by his wife, Wanda Weaver of the home; sons, Kyle Stephen Weaver of Belhaven, NC, Jacob Lewis Weaver of Marlborough, MA, and Matthew Williams (Samantha) of Moyock, NC; a brother, John Jacob “Johnny” Weaver, III (Janette) of Pawleys Island; a sister, Carol Weaver Ross of Bennettsville; grandchildren, Jase Weaver, Matthew “MJ” Williams, and Shelby Williams; several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his special K-9 babies, Eli, Zippy, and Fancy.

A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. The service will be officiated by Rev. Taylor Coates and Rev. Mark Johnston.

A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Gathering Room at First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Steve’s honor to First United Methodist Church PO Box 456 Bennettsville, SC 29512.
