Stephen "Buddy" Duncan Lane, III

Stephen “Buddy” Duncan Lane, III passed away April 6, 2024, at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was 84 years old.

Buddy was born January 30, 1940, to the late Stephen D.  Jr. and Don Elizabeth McLaurin Lane. He was a member of Carolina Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the United States Army. He was a graduate of Clio High School in the Class of 1959. He married the love of his life, Becky, in California on January 10, 1964. He retired from Coastal Plains Research Center Clemson Ext. after 23 years, then became the Owner Operator of Lane’s Service Center. He was Police Chief for the Town of Clio from 1991-1995. He was a Master Mason and served on the board of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He loved the Clemson Tigers, NASCAR, Fishing, even was a past winner of the Arthur Smith King Mackerel tournament. He loved life, loved people and helping everyone.

He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his wife of 60 years, Rebecca “Becky” Lane; son, Stephen D. Lane, IV (Chasity H. Lane); grandchildren, Justin T. Lane (Elizabeth) and Dylan R. Lane; great grandchildren, Ellagrace Lane, Brantley Lane, and 1 on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and brothers, Johnny Lane and Al Lane.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm Friday, April 12, 2024, at Carolina Presbyterian Church, officiated, by Rev. Jim Bumgardner. The family will receive friends in the Church Community Center after the service.
