Sylvia Juanita “Nita” Currin Alexson, 86, passed away, Monday, June 5, 2023, at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC.
Born November 9, 1936, in Bennettsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Maybelle Huggins Currin. Mrs. Nita worked at Oak River Mill, Firestone and later retired from INA in Cheraw, SC. She was currently working with the Marlboro County Council on Aging. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. Mrs. Nita enjoyed fishing, playing Canasta, crafts, and traveling.
Mrs. Nita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Alexson; sons, Sam Speight, Sr. and Earl Speight; daughter, Wanda Lynn Alexson; grandson, Paul Britt; brothers, Edward Currin and Preston Currin; infant brother, Joseph B. Currin; infant sister, Patsy May Currin.
She is survived by her daughters, Faye Brigman and husband Weldon of Wallace, and Linda “Pop” Kuykendall and husband Ed of Bennettsville; sister, Geneva Callahan (Curly) of Lumberton, NC; grandchildren, Chris Speight (Trina), Amy Melton (Rev. Frankie), Alicia Speight, Sam Speight, Jr. and Elizabeth Cross (Tom); 8 great grandchildren; and a host of special nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Burroughs Funeral Home with burial to follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Funeral Home.
