Thomas Allen McDaniel, age 87 of Bennettsville, went home to be with the love of his life, Linda S. McDaniel, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after an extended illness.
Allen was born April 10, 1937, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late Elbert and Allie Brown McDaniel. Allen graduated from McColl High School. He then spent some time at the University of South Carolina before joining the United States Army. After his military service, He worked for Delta Mills. After leaving Delta, he became the Vice President of Southern Machine and Sales in Cheraw. Allen worked there for several years before retiring and joining the Bennettsville Police Department. He worked his way up to Captain before retiring as Assistant Chief of Police. Allen was a member of the BET team and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, especially at Cherry Grove. He also enjoyed going out to eat, woodworking, and craft shows with his wife. Most of all, Thomas cherished spending time with his family and two fur babies Ladybug and Bud.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Linda S. McDaniel; brothers, Elbert McDaniel and Charles McDaniel; mother and father-in-law, Gladys S. Gentry and Thelbert Stevens.
He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Alexson (Andy) of the home, Stephanie Grooms (Ken) of Wallace, and Pamela Grant (Keith) of Bennettsville; a son, Steven McDaniel (Kim) of Brightsville; a brother, Tony McDaniel (Judy) of Society Hill; a sister, Dorothy Prevatte (Dickie) of Summerville; grandchildren, Andrew “Bud” Alexson, Heather Alexson, Timothy McDuffie (Katie), Brad McDuffie (Robin), Jessica McDuffie, Amber M. Kemper (Victor), Jordan Grooms (Kortney), Abbi Grooms, Christina M. Farris, April M. McDonald (Hamp), Savannah M. Scruggs (Jordan), Steven McDaniel, Jr, Carolina English; great grandchildren, Susanna Powers, Sydney McDuffie, Sofia Kemper, Audrey Kemper, Autumn McDuffie, Matthew McDuffie, Brantley McDonald, Dahlia Farris, Roan Farris, Ember Farris, Kirin Farris, Emily Rae Grooms; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family also survive.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Rogers Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home.
