Walker Ray Woodle, Jr.

Ret. MSGT Walker “Ray” Woodle, Jr. age 62 of Fort Mill, SC, passed away on January 18, 2023, after an extended illness.

Ray was born June 5, 1960, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late Walter Ray and Bertha Mae Lawhorn Woodle. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired after 21 years of service with the rank of Master Sargent. Ray then went to work for several years with the Caterpillar Corp. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and working on old cars. Most of all, Ray enjoyed spending time and creating memories with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Polson Woodle; and a sister, Linda Shuler.

Ray is survived by a son, Jonathan Ray Woodle (Jamie) of Hill AFB, UT; a daughter, Joanne Vastine (Joe) of Fort Mill, SC; sisters, Dixie Woodard of Bennettsville and Carolyn Bilyeu of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Alissa Woodle, James Woodle, Caleb Vastine, and Lily Vastine; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Burroughs Funeral Home. A burial with full military honors will follow the service at Sunset Cemetery.
