Wanda Howell Stanton, age 83, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023. She was born in Gibson, North Carolina, the daughter of Myrtle Gibson Howell and Fred Clark Howell.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mr. Robert Allen Stanton, her sister Mrs. Freda Mann, and two sons, Robert Allen Stanton II (Carol) of McColl, South Carolina and Ronald Howell Stanton of Bennettsville, South Carolina.  She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren, Ben Stanton (Marci), Mary Gibson Stanton  Driggers (Eric), Kaylee Stanton, Nicholas Stanton, and Michael Stanton, and great-grandmother to Russell Stanton, Mariella Stanton, and Savannah Driggers.

She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Vernon Howell, Roderick Howell, Gloria Coughenour and Anne Braswell.

Wanda was a 1958 graduate of Gibson High School and a 1960 graduate of Stratford College. She dedicated her life to loving and caring for others. She especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a phenomenal cook and loved entertaining at her home. She was also an extraordinary piano and organ player and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member and former treasurer of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Bennettsville Garden Club, and mayor of the City of Bennettsville from 1989 to 1995.

A memorial service will be held at Pine Grove Methodist Church in McColl, South Carolina, on Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00 p.m.

The family wishes to thank Wanda’s caregivers for the loving assistance they provided in home as well as the Hospice team for its home services and support at Morrison Manor.
