Bennettsville, SC
William E. Grooms passed away Monday, January 24, 2022, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg after an illness. He was 76 years old.
Born July 26, 1945, he was the only son of the late Ralph and Jessie Lee Locklear Grooms. He was a graduate of McColl High School and of the Holiness faith. He was previously employed with J.P. Stevens and later as a local insurance salesman for many years. William was a United states Air Force veteran. He was very much a “people person” and knew many people in our community. He loved visiting the local businesses and catching up on all the town talk. When he wasn’t working, he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, cutting grass, and simply sitting on the porch. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
William was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: wife, Wanda Leviner Grooms of the home; daughters, Melinda Pelham (Larry) Myrtle Beach, SC, Teresa Jorgensen (William) of Laurinburg, NC, Rhonda Frazier (Frankie) of Clio, SC; grandchildren, Kyle Adkins, Kayla Stott (Jacob), Rachel Hulon (Ethan), Larry Pelham, II (Monique), Adam Frazier, and Aaron Frazier; great-grandchildren, Aubree Adkins, Christopher Adkins, and Lydia Stott.
As a result of the ongoing presence of Covid in our community, the family will hold a private funeral service to honor the life of William. They are very grateful for the outreach and support of family and friends during this difficult time.
