Willie Charles Barfield, age 74 of Bennettsville, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, after an extended illness. Charlie was born March 22, 1949, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late Charlton Len and Myrtle McKenzie Barfield. He was raised in McColl. Charlie graduated from McColl High School and was a member of their Red Devils football team (#85). After high school, Charlie joined the United States Army and honorably served his country. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trips to the beach. Charlie was a Nascar fan, and Dale Earnhardt, Sr., was his favorite driver. He was also a fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Las Vegas Raiders. Most of all, Charlie loved his family deeply. He loved spending time with all of them, but his grandchildren were his heart. Charlie is survived by his wife, Sarah Kersey Barfield of the home; a daughter, Zonya Lee Barfield (Nathan) of Atlanta, GA; a son, Henry Love (Loretta) of Bennettsville; a brother, David Franklin Barfield of McColl; sisters, Brenda Barfield Spivey and Becky Barfield Grooms (Robert), both of McColl, and Cynthia Barfield Horne (Terry) of Hamer; grandchildren, Zack Love and Shawn Lee Powell; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive. A service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Military honors will be given by the United States Army. A time of visitation will take place on Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.
